Military Eyewear From Frame of Choice

Serving our military since 1932

Frame of Choice is the faithful supplier of military eyewear since 1932. At the time, the owner saw a need for protective tactical eyewear for the Armed Forces, aircraft pilots, and patrolmen. Later, Rochester Optical became one of the few military prescription eyewear manufacturers in the country and supplied both the Army and the Air force with combat-ready ballistic eyewear for soldiers. After WWII, the tactical eyewear company expanded its services to include creating and selling prescription eyeglasses for the general public.

In the 1940s, Rochester Optical manufactured these vintage red-lens glasses for anti-aircraft gunners and aviators. The red tint blocks all colors of the visible light spectrum except red. Because rod cells are not sensitive to red wavelengths, pilots who wore these lenses could quickly adjust to darkness, which was crucial for nighttime flights. The lenses also helped anti-aircraft gunners see and track the flaming course of machine gun tracer shells.

Today, we continue to excel at anticipating and meeting our country's eyewear needs. Whether you're looking for standard issue eyeglasses, the legacy BCGs, or prescription inserts for gas masks, we have the solution that has you covered.
